If You are Approached Regarding an Exchange:
- Try to be as flexible as possible with dates. Make sure you book any travel after arranging accommodation, if possible.
- At some point, telephone your exchanger on the phone if possible.
- Check with your house insurance and mortgage companies that you are free to exchange your property.
- If you are worried about leaving out any valuables, place them in a safe hold, or leave them with someone you trust (making sure that they are still insured if they leave your house).
- If you are allowing your car to be used by visitors:
- Check they have a valid drivers license for you country.
- Consult your insurance company, and take out cover for named drivers for the visitors. This
will exclude your guests from allowing others (e.g. children) from driving without your permission.
- If you will be driving their car in a country which is foreign to you, ask them about any special laws and feature regarding the driving system.
If you meet your visitors personally at some stage, it will always be a benefit.
